The Nigeria Police Force, Ondo State
Command has said it has begun an
investigation to unravel the misery behind
the killing of a man who was beheaded at
Famese community in Akure, the Ondo State
Capital.
The lifeless body of the man whose identity
is yet unknown was found at early hours of
Wednesday beside a mountain where some
people pray and worship.
The community has since been thrown into a
state of shock and disbelief when it
discovered the headless body of the
deceased .
LEADERSHIP Friday’s investigation revealed
that some worshippers who went to pray at
the mountain on Wednesday morning found
the headless body of the man at the base of
the mountain.
According to the source, this prevented the
worshippers from holding their usual morning
prayer sessions as they quickly went to
Ijapo, Akure police station to report the
matter to the police.
It was also gathered that the police allegedly
detained those who went to report before
sending a team of policemen to the area to
evacuate the deceased.
The source explained further that, “ After the
matter had been reported at the Ijapo Police
Station, the policemen had combed the entire
area, arresting residents indiscriminately.
Those that went to report at the police station
were detained by the police. The police said
the arrest of the people was part of their
investigation but we don’t know how the
corpse got there.”
“Another source told our correspondent that
the victim must have been killed somewhere
far from the area while the killer dumped his
headless body in that area just to cause
confusion .
The residents also alleged that the policemen
left the community where the incident
happened and went to the nearby
communities to arrest many people.
They further disclosed that as a result of this,
many residents of the area had fled for fear
of arrest .
Speaking through the Public Relations Officer
of the command, Mr Femi Joseph, who
confirmed the incident, denied the allegation
of any arrest.
According to him, “ The police did not arrest
anybody, when we got information about the
incident, we sent our men there to evacuate
the body.” ,
